Hello, Please help me get answers to my questions regarding Swiss Half Fare card and Saver Day Pass.

1- Do SDPs have restrictions on time travel like after 9am?

2- Do we have to exchange for individual tickets before boarding a trains/bus/boat or can we just show the SDP?

3- If we have HFC and family travel cards for kids 16 or younger, when we buy the tickets do we pay for all (including kids) or just pay for the adults?

    Thank you

    1. No – see Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass and bit.ly/2rkekat)

    2. Just show the SDP.

    3. You don’t need tickets for kids under 16 if you have a Swiss Family Card (http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issfamilycard).

    1) I live in Brazil. Can I buy the Day Pass Saver?

    2) I will travel only 1 day, from Tirano to St Moritz, from St. Moritz to Chur, from Chur to Zurich: just board the train?

Hello Cris and Welcome to MySwissAlps

    1. Yes but it is Saver Day Pass (http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass and bit.ly/2rkekat).

    2. Yes provided you are not planning to use the Bernina Express which requires reservations. Regular trains you can just hop on and go.

    1) The Saver Day Pass includes the Bernina Express, but it is necessary to reserve the seat, is that it?

    2) Does the Saver Day Pass include public transportation in the city of Zurich?

    Thanks

Please let me know if I a Saver day pass is needed (more saving) or just A half Fare card for my 1 full day in Lauterbrunnen, planning to go either the Jungfraujoch or Schilthorn and to Interlaken for dinner and back to Lauterbrunnen. Thanks

You have to work that out for yourself based on your specific itinerary. I don’t know where you are coming from to get to Lauterbrunnen. You can find the fares for any trip using the SBB Timetable (http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable). If you are not familiar with the timetable it will pay to first read the instructions on that page. The fares you see will assume you have a half-fare Card. So add them up and see if you make any savings with a Saver Day Pass compared to the total ticket prices. The SDP does not offer any benefits on Wengen to Jungfraujoch or Mürren to Schilthorn.

Thank you. We have a SDP the day before to get us from Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen, the next day will be just to the mountains in Junfrauj region, Interlarken and back to Lauterbrunnen. I used the time table and noticed train tickets from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen are not expensive at all so the half Fare cards will be just fine since SDPs do not offer any benefits from Wengen up. Again, thank you very much for all your helpful answers

    Hi Shopper99,

I’d recommend Saver Day Passes only for long trips, and if you are fine with the restrictions: http://www.myswissalps.com/sa verdaypass. Lucerne to Lauterbrunnen only costs CHF 20.30 for Swiss Half Fare Card holders. A Saver Day Pass is more expensive than that, unless you’ve planned to do more trips that same day.

On the BEX website (RhB) you can book the seat 6 months in advance. The question is: who has a Saver Day Pass can only book the seat and then just board?

    Hi Cris,

Yes, that’s correct. The only issue is that they don’t let you select the Saver Day Pass as a reduction option. Picking 1-day travel pass will probably not be a problem, but I am not sure. Anyway, other websites do not ask for the pass type when booking the seat: http://www.myswissalps.com/be rninaexpress/tickets.

    Hello Cris,

A Saver Day Pass covers the BEX.

When you make a reservation only, RHB don’t care what sort of pass or ticket you will actually be using for the trip. You can make a reservation 6 months out and decide months later which pass, if any, you will use. During the reservation-only period it makes no difference what reduction you choose; even “No Deduction”.

    Hi Arno,

When did RHB extend reservation period from 3 to 6 months?

    Hi Rockoyster,

I’m not sure. Fairly recently I think. Pretty useful I think for the early birds. Perhaps others will follow, I haven’t look into that yet. TGV Lyria allows 4 months ahead since a year or so, used to be 3 as well.
