Our main interest is seeing as much of the spectacular scenery as possible but without feeling we are rushing around. My wife also does not wish to miss the chocolate factory. Given those requirements would you suggest any changes to the following itinerary?

    • Gatwick to Zurich and transfer to Lucerne
    • Lucerne for 3 nights with day trip to Mt Rigi and Pilatus Golden Trip on following day
    • Wengen for 3 nights with trip to Jungfraujoch and trip on Wengen Mannlichen Aerial Cableway
    • Montreux for 3 nights with trip on Chocolate Train/Gruyeres and a day trip to Gstaadt
    • Zermatt for 3 nights with Gornergrat railway trip and a trip on Rothorn cable car
    • Chur for 2 nights with day trip to Arosa
    • One night in Tirano before train to Milan to return to Gatwick

Total of 15 nights includes Golden Pass, Glacier Express and Bernina Express. Intend purchasing 15 day Swiss travel passes

    Appreciate any feedback

Hello Mr & Mrs Bluebell, welcome to MySwissAlps!

I think the itinerary you posted fits your requirements quite well. It does involve of lot of town and hotel changes, but if you’re fine with that, that’s no problem. Your travel scheme does allow you to explore many varied parts of the country and lots of highlights. You can check all trips in the timetable and decide whether you’re fine with the amount of traveling. Basically, you will be having a couple of longer train transfers, plus short and very doable day trips from your base towns. You’ll find lots of information on the towns and attractions you’ve mentioned through our Where to go and What to do sections.

During your transfer from Wengen to Montreux, I advise to use the scenic Golden Pass route.

When will you be traveling? In low season, not all cable cars (like the Männlichen) will be open yet.

A 15 day Swiss Travel Pass is definitely the best option in your case. Resellers are listed in the price section of our Swiss Travel Pass page. You can best buy your pass from https://shop.switzerla ndtravelcentre.com/?currency=GBP#/en/home and print it at home without any shipping or administration fees.

Once your itinerary is set and you can start booking hotels, this hotel overview may be of help.
