Hi all,

I am planning a trip with my partner to Grindelwald in early May this year. We are interested in the following activities, some of which involve hiking trails. However, we heard that many of the trails/activities might be closed during this time of the year and would like to get some information if the activities which we would like to do would be feasible:

1. First cliff walk

2. Bachalpsee lake – hiking from First

3. Eiger Trail

4. Grosse Scheidegg – hiking from First

It is our understanding that due to the high altitude of some of these hiking trails, that they often are closed till June. Are there any other alternative hikes with nice scenery which we could attempt (in the case where we are unable to do the above stated activities)?

Unfortunately, Spring comes late in the higher altitudes so yes, all the trails you listed may not be accessible in May. Around this time it’s best to explore the various trails in the valleys, and along the rivers and lakes.

The Lauterbrunnen – Stechelberg is an easy trail you can do from Grindelwald. You can combine this hike with a visit to Schilthorn and Trummelbach Falls if you have time:
