Just curious about popular hiking trails in Zermatt and Jungfrau region with the recent snow. We will be there in a couple weeks and plan on hiking 5 Lakes hike, Rotenboden to Riffelalp, Bachalpse, Mannlichen to Klein Schendigg. Not sure how much snow fell up in the mountains. Are these trails passable do you think? We are use to winter hiking, but won't have full gear because we are traveling carry on only. Any sense on conditions would be helpful. Also, sorry if this post went out multiple times...I was having tech difficulties : )

Thank you!

Stacey

Hello Stacey,

No problem at all. Your best bet to see if the trails are open for hiking is to check in with the local tourist office upon arrival or you can check the following:

1. Zermatt: https://www.myswissalps.com/zermatt/travel, navigate to "Information on other websites", research hiking trails via the Zermatt website and the status will be displayed.

2. Jungfrau region: https://www.myswissalps.com/jungfrauregion/activities, likewise, navigate to "Information on other websites", you can research the hiking trails status via the link provided here.

As always, we like to remind travelers to check the weather forecast before setting off on hikes in the mountains.

MySwissAlps also has a handy section for hiking in Switzerland here: https://www.myswissalps.com/hiking

Kind regards,

Yolanda
