    Hi,

We are a family of 3 members including our son who is 3 years old and we are planning for a trip to switzerland from Italy (Milan). We plan to spend 3 nights in Switzerland with our base as Interlaken. We would love to spend our holidays relaxed and ofcourse including train rides. Suggest a rough itinerary for us to travel from Milan and also a comfortable stay in the country side. We would also be happy if we get self catering apartments to prepare food on our own and with short train rides and enjoying the views around. Suggest us some ideas.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Tharani – welcome to the forum.

Train routes from Milano Centrale to Switzerland are displayed and easily understood at :

Pick a Swiss city for your destination…such as Interlaken or Wengen.

That will help you a lot with your questions.

This link will help you understand your options in the area, especially, near Wengen..

    Hi Tharani,

Wengen would indeed be a good option, especially if you intend to focus on the Jungfrau region only. See the link for more information about attractions in that area. Most self catering apartments are only available for a full week, but there are exceptions. If you like help with this, please let us know when you will travel, which town you prefer to stay in, and what your budget is.

Once you have a tentative plan you can post it here for us to review if your like. Our planning section might be useful too.

    Hi Arno & Slowpoke,

    Thanks much for your reply.

We are planning for a trip in the 2nd week of October and the stay will be 3 nights in Switzerland.

As you suggested we would focus only Jungfrau region only. Can you tell us where will it be be convenient to stay[Wengen or Jungfrau] both budget wise and comfort and also less travel. We would love to have a scenic trip rather than just viewing snow capped mountains alone.

Also let us know a rough budget for our stay.

Infact wherever we want to travel we would love to go by train only.

    Hi Tharani,

Wengen is a car free village in the mountains, and perfect for exploring the immediate surroundings. Interlaken is larger, with more facilities, but not in the mountains. For your purpose I would say that Wengen is the better option.

    Here are some accommodation suggestions:

All of these can be booked for 3 nights, and are pretty affordable. Is this the price category and type of lodging you’re after?

A budget for your entire stay is hard to provide. It depends on the accommodation, but also on which rail pass you choose (if any), which would depend on the day trips you intend to make. A Swiss Transfer Ticket Combi could suit your needs. It includes the trains from the Swiss border to Wengen and back, and 50% discounts on trips during your stay. You only need to buy it for the adults; the child travels along for free.
