I will be traveling with my family (3 adults and 3 children) from Nov 23-27. This is our first trip to the Swiss Alps. We fly in to Zurich and want to experience the culture and scenery of the Alps. We do not ski. Is Lucerne a good place to sleep and then make day trips to other towns via train?

Great that you’ll get to visit Switzerland. November is low season (http://www.myswissalps.com/be sttimetovisit), but you can still have a wonderful time with city visits, boat and train trips and mountain visits if weather is clear. Lucerne would certainly be a good base. It’s a lively small city offering lots of different activities to choose from. Day trips to Zurich (http://www.myswissalps.com/zu rich), Bern (http://www.myswissalps.com/be rn) and even the Junfrau region (http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion) would be possible too.
