Jungfrau Travel Pass or Top of Europe Pass

Short summary – read this first

Jane and Michael are planning a trip to Switzerland from October 16th to 24th, starting in Zurich and heading to Montreux before visiting the Interlaken area. They are seeking advice on whether they need separate passes for the Jungfrau region and if the Swiss Travel Pass will cover their journey effectively.

Key takeaways:
  • The Swiss Travel Pass is sufficient to cover travel from Zurich to Montreux and to Interlaken, as it is valid throughout Switzerland.
  • Consider combining the Swiss Travel Pass with a regional pass like the Jungfrau Travel Pass if planning multiple mountain excursions to benefit from free mountain transportation.
  • Look into the Berner Oberland Pass for extensive coverage options instead of relying solely on the Jungfrau Travel Pass.

    Hi All,

    In Switzerland 16th to 24th October 2023.

Zurich to Montreux 16th to 20th, then Interlarken area for the rest.

We believe that you need a separate pass for the Interlarken region the Jungfrau Travel Pass are we correct?? and just the Swiss Travel pass for the first part.

Any others that we need to look at ?

    Cheers,

    Jane and Michael.

First of all, Jungfrau is not ‘top of the world’ – just Europe!

There are multiple fare / pass options. Much depends on the amount of public transport you use overall. Have a look at other forum discussions on the same subject and also use the comparison spreadsheet to calculate comparative costs between Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss Half Fare Card, Saver Day Pass

The Swiss Travel Pass covers all areas so is convenient but half fare point to point and/or Saver Day Passes might work for you. Look carefully at the Berner Oberland Pass which gives great coverage, rather than the more restricted Jungfrau travel pass.

    Hi Jane and Michael,

Based on your travel plans, getting a Swiss Travel Pass is sufficient. The Swiss Travel Pass is valid throughout Switzerland so you can use to for travelling from Zurich to Montreux and also to Interlaken. You can view and download the validity map here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/validity

You can also combine a Swiss Travel Pass with a regional pass such as the Jungfrau Travel Pass if you ‘re planning to do a lot of mountain excursions in the Jungfrau region. A regional pass usually includes free travelling on mountain transportation too so you can avoid buying tickets for each excursion. The Swiss Travel Pass provides free travelling on public transport but only partially covers mountain transportation. You can find more info on how to use the Swiss Travel Pass here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse

Let us know if you need more info.

    Regards,

    Anna
