Hi,

Me and my wife would be at Wengen from 21st to 25th July. We are interested in hiking in the region. We have experience trekking in the Himalayas up to 5000 mtrs (although nothing technical).

I was looking for good day hikes which would take 4 hrs plus of climbing and take us high up in the mountains. One I have shortlisted is Murren to Schilthorn. Can you please suggest another such hike? The hike can be even longer 6-7 hrs if its possible to get back by cable car/train etc/

I know there are lots of other easier and picturesque hikes which we plan to do on first 2 days. Was just looking was another hike which would be a bit more challenging without being technical and needing equipment etc

Thanks

Bhushan

THere are a number of very scenic and challenging/non-technical hikes to do from a Wengen base. You can read about them in detail (along with a lot of other stuff about the area) in a series of 3 PDFs posted at www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/topic/tips-about-wengen-and-the-jungfrau-region-by-kim

First to Schynige Platte is "the" famous trail in this region: myswissalps.com/ hiking/first-schynigeplatte. More options of mostly shorter walks (some can be combined) are here: myswissalps.com/ berneseoberland/ activities. You can set the slider to 3+ hours, for example, and click "Show results". This is pure hiking time without any breaks.

Thank you Slowpoke, Kim11 and Arno. I think I have more than enough for 4 days of stay at Wengen :)

Hi Bushan-

Glad we found a few things for you. After this trip, you will have a much better idea what to do on the next trip. ;-)
