We will be traveling to Lucerne from Appenzell in June. If we depart the train at Arth Goldau to visit Rigi, do we need to store luggage there and head to Lucerne by train or can we bring luggage to Rigi and return to Lucerne by boat from either Vitznau or Weggis? Thank you.

From memory there is no luggage storage on the Rigi trains or the cable car Rigi Kaltbad to Weggis. You could probably take luggage with you but I don’t think it would be very convenient. What do you do with it if you want to wander around Rigi Kulm?

There should be a bit of space for luggage on the Rigi trains – as they do to some extent serve a population living on the mountain – however I don’t think huge suitcases would be particularly well received,,,

Thank you. We wil not attempt to go to Rigi with luggage. We will go to Lucerne then travel from there.

    Hi Debbie,

We have quite a comprehensive section with information about luggage, have a look here:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/practical/luggage

The big stations (Zurich, Lucerne etc) will have luggage storage but the smaller stations (Rigi etc.) tend not to have it. So safest would be to travel via Lucerne and deposit it at one of the lockers there. There will be more information on costs etc on the SBB site Lucerne station entry:

    http://www.sbb.ch/en/station-services/railway-stations/lucerne-station.html

    Have a great trip!

    Maria
