How to plan a trip to Mt Titlis?

Hi,

I am planning a trip to Switzerland and would appreciate your help in the following matter. I am travelling there from 12th September to 17th September. 12 the will be in Luzern/Engelberg. Will really appreciate if I can get information on how to plan a trip to mt Titilis for the day. I will be travelling to Interlaken on 13th and plan to stay remainder of the days there. what activities can be done once in Interlaken.? also what is advisable, to stay in Luzern or engelberg? I will be travelling on 11th night from Amsterdam to either Luzern or engelberg. Can a trip be planned to mt titlis on our own or we need to have a guided tour.? Will appreciate your response.
