We will be spending April 12 and 13 at Lucerne. We would like to be outdoors as much as possible (weather permitting) that include lake cruise, cable cars, cogwheel trains, mountain tops and getting a feel of Lucerne as a city. It is becoming very difficult to plan because some of the cable cars / cogwheel trains may not be operational during that period and I am losing track of the sequence that we should follow. Can anyone suggest an itinerary please ? We will have spent 2 days at Wengen/Interlaken before arriving at Lucerne.

    Thanks !

    Hi rdebnath,

The gondola Engelberg-Titlis is operating. The cable car between Weggis and Rigi Kaltbad is closed from 3-27 April, however, the trains to Rigi are operating. The cableway from Kriens to Pilatus Kulm is operating as well. Boats are operating as well. I would say enough choice for two days to be out and about.

    Hi Debnath,

Congratulations on your visit to Lucerne, the most beautiful and quaint town in Switzerland. I was there last April. You spend a day enjoying the township. You can spend the second day kin Engelberg and Titlis. They are great places to visit, especially if you are with kids. There are lots of activities up there on Mount Titlis.

    Have a nice time.

visited (as first stop in 8 day trip)… Lucern was amazing… took train to Pilatus, train up, cable cars down – short bus right back into train. Cloudy (foggy) drizzly, damp, cold day – still very exhilarating. Day 2 was crystal blue sky, brisk and invigorating clear air – took ferry to Weggin, train up Rigi (w/ bottle of wine, bread, charcuterie, fruit and cheeses). Leisurely stroll down after lunch in a meadow. Hiked halfway down to cable car (should have taken a dip in the spa – they rent suits) – and classic ferry from Vitznau back to town. Perfect days – both of them… you will have a fantastic visit – such a stunning village.

Thanks Chillytaylor, you sure had a nice time. When did you visit ? Was the cogwheel train to Mt Pilatus running then ? I will explore this more and certainly consider while finalizing our itinerary.
