    Hi

I’m just enquiring about lake cruises in the evenings, particularly on Lake Brienz, as quite often you can get great night photos of places, and I thought I’d love to get some evening shots of towns, etc. along the lakeside all lit up at night.

    Many thanks.

    Hi Crazy Kiwi!

I’m not sure when you’ll be traveling, but during the summer timetable of the boats at Lake Thun and Lake Brienz, there’s a weekly evening cruise from Brienz to Interlaken Ost at Saturdays. Evening cruises on Lake Thun are available from Thursdays to Saturdays. You’ll find the options using our links to the timetables at http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakebrienz/gettingth ere and http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakethun/gettingther e.

Would you be able to carry along a tripod for your pictures? The movement of the boat, combined with the lack of daylight resulting in long shutter speeds, can make it hard to obtain sharp evening photos.

I found the same dilemma. I was counting on evening cruises once we’re back from our adventures. No such luck on Lake Geneva (at the Montreux end) on Sept 15, we’re taking a 10 minute ride at 6:15, but that seems to be the last. No such luck on Lugano (after we catch the Bernina bus, arriving at 5:30) on Sept 18. It’s a bit disappointing and I thought I wasn’t reading the timetables correctly.

    Hi Linamary69,

For Lake Geneva, a restricted autumn timetable already starts from September 2. However, in this timetable I do find a boat from Montreux to Lausanne at 20h00, plus several short evening trips between Geneva and Thonon. And although it’s not the area you’re looking for, I’d also like to mention a round trip from the boat dock of Genève Mont-Blanc starting at 19h45 (reservations obligatory). You can follow the link under “More on other websites” at http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakegeneva and search for the PDF autumn timetable.

There are evening cruises between Lugano and Gandria (“Grotti tours) on Fridays and Saturdays, but only up to August 17 as far as I can tell, so that’s of no use to you I’m afraid. The link to the Lake Lugano timetable can be found at at http://www.myswissalps.com/bo atlakelugano/gettingth ere.

    Hi Annika

Apologies for not saying when I’ll be travelling – about mid-June 2010.

Thanks so much for the information and link. That is fabulous.

    Hi again Annika

I’ve just had a look at the links you sent, but whenever I try to go to the timetable link, it only takes me to the train timetable, not the boat timetable.

Also, I forgot to mention that I’m not a professional photographer or anything like that, so no tripod, I’m very amateur.

    Thanks again.

    For Lake Geneva see http://www.cgn.ch/en/.

For Lake Lugano see http://www.lakelugano.ch/en/t op/timetableticket

If the boat is not steady a tripod isn’t going to help. Most cameras, even on smartphones these days have some sort of night mode. Just give it a go.
