Hello,

I bought two Swiss Travel Passes for our trip in September. I bought them from Happy Rails. I received the PDF to print but wondered if I could use an App on my iphone to show my pass. I downloaded the SBB Mobile App but it is asking me for my customer number, yet I do not see one on the PDF provided. Can I use the SBB Mobile App or is there another App that I can use to display my travel pass? Any assistance would be appreciated.

Hi Ciriza2193,

Some wallet apps support PDF files (I don’t have examples I’m afraid). But it’s not required. The pass can’t be loaded in the SBB app. You can use that app for train schedules. You can simply show the train staff the PDF when requested. Nothing else is needed.

Thank you for the quick reply. I have printed out the PDFs and will look into saving them in my phone for convenience. Is there an app for my phone that would be beneficial for train schedules and routes that you recommend for using while traveling in Switzerland?

You can use the SBB timetable to check train schedules and plan your journeys.

There is a mobile version that you can download directly to your smartphone. You can find the link here: http://www.myswissalps.com/aboutswitzerland/practical/websites (under public transport)

I didn’t want to create a new thread, so am asking a related question here.

I purchased the Swiss Travel Pass for our family, and it shows on my SBB app, as I had logged in before purchasing it on SBB. com.

Now, when I am planning the trip using the timetable, it still shows the cost of the ticket, and yes, I’m using the dates that are valid on my STP for the search. For example, Zurich to Interlaken by train should be included for free with STP, but it shows me how much the ticket is and ask me to checkout by paying that amount. Doesn’t the app automatically register that the ride is free with STP?

I have been reading through all the related information and haven’t gotten any answers to this. I understand that I might not need to buy the ticket since its already in the scope of STP validity area, and just need to show the ticket to the ticket checker when asked for it. But I think it’s not as straight forward when I need to book a trip which is partially covered with STP, like Interlaken to Schilthorn, shouldn’t the timetable suggest the amount of money for only the part that is not covered with STP? So that I can pay for that on the app itself?

Is that how it is supposed to be or is there something that am not doing correctly?

For your Swiss Travel Pass, correct – no need to buy any tickets for trains, buses and boats. You can simply board and enjoy your journey. Simply present your pass and identification when asked by a ticket inspector.

With regard to cable cars and most other mountain transport you would need to buy a discounted ticket. For your trip to Schilthorn for example, you can purchase the ticket (with the Swiss Travel Pass discount) here: https://www.myswissalps.com/schilthorn/tickets

You can also research other mountain trips on this website and thereon, view purchase options via the “tickets” tab. Key in the mountain name in the search box, another example – Jungfraujoch, then click on “Tickets”.

Hi FromHouston!

No, the SBB app doesn’t automatically include discounts or free legs if you’ve uploaded a Swiss Travel Pass to your account. That’s why there’s little advantage in doing so.

We normally recommend getting travel passes through one of the tourism-geared web shops at https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price. All you need is to show your (digital or printed) Swiss Travel Pass when asked for. You can store the digital pass anywhere on your phone. If you need additional discounted mountain tickets, you can buy them from several vendors or on the spot. Having a Swiss Travel Pass in the SBB app won’t make any difference there either.

Because of the great information y’all share on myswissalps, I am familiar with the mountain/attraction specific websites and will get our tickets through them. I wasn’t just sure about why the SBB app is not acknowledging my STP. But, thank you for clarifying that.
