Platform changing in Zweisimmen, how fast?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler is planning a train trip in Switzerland and wants to know how difficult it is to switch platforms at Zweisimmen. They need to get from Platform 12 to Platform 8 in less than 5 minutes. They have minimal luggage and are looking for advice on whether this connection is realistic.

Key takeaways:
  • The platforms at Zweisimmen are adjacent, making it easy to switch within the time limit.
  • Connections are designed to be seamless for tourists, so you likely won't face issues.
  • While 5 minutes is generally enough, if you’re traveling with kids or heavy luggage, consider arriving a bit earlier.
  • Swiss trains are usually on time, so be ready to board your next train promptly.

How difficult is it to switch platforms to catch connecting trains?

For example, I am considering the following:

Train 1: 9:08AM from Interlaken Ost to Zweisimmen (Arrive at 10:20AM) on Platform 12

Train 2: 10:25AM from Zweisimmen to Montreux via GoldenPass Line (Departs from Platform 8)

Basically, I need to be able to get from Platform 12 to Platform 8 within 5 mintues or less while I’m at Zweisimmen. I don’t have much luggage, but still – I would like to make sure this is realistic. Thanks.

This is a major tourist route. People make this connection all the time. You won’t have any problems.

This question is very frequent on this forum.

The platforms are adjacent and the connection is designed to be seemless.

The change is needed because the MOB railway is 1000mm gauge track, and the BLS railway from Spiez is 1435mm (European standard) gauge track

It is precisely because this train change is so annoying to many tourists that from next year carriages with adjustable wheelsets will be introduced so that they can travel on both lines so you won’t have to get off at Zweisimmen any more

if u travelling alone without much luggage its easy. if u travelling with kids or old parents or with suitcases 5 min at times can be not enough…

when i travelled to swiss the first time i had to change trains i was slow as we had to look around to get a hang of it… later on we felt even minimum 3 min is fine as swiss trains are usually dot on time… ofcourse them being dot on time means the next train also leaves dot on time n u have to be thr at that time
