Hi Tlcsimon and welcome to MySwissAlps!
You can buy a ticket for that trip online here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/traintickets and it is valid for any trip that day. You can also buy tickets at Zurich airport as well.
Have you looked into a Swiss rail pass to possible save you some money during your visit to Switzerland? https://www.myswissalp s.com/train/ticketspas ses

Thanks Lucas! We are planning to buy half fare card. Along with the initial ride to Grindelwald we hope to do the Jungfraujoch as well as traveling to Zermatt where we will spend 3 days exploring before heading to Milan. Does that make sense to you?

Grindelwald and Zermatt make sense as destinations yes. 🙂
Read about what to do there here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/grindelwald & https://www.myswissalp s.com/zermatt
From Zermatt you can train to Brig, then train to Domodossola before continuing on to Milan. You can buy tickets from Domodossola to Milan online here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/traintickets/ita ly & half fare tickets to Domodossola from Zermatt here: https://www.myswissalp s.com/traintickets/swi tzerlandhalffare
You can buy this as one ticket in Zermatt as well (and get a discount on the Swiss leg) but it might be a little more expensive as international train tickets usually get more expensive the closer to your travel date you buy them,

So it makes more sense to purchase ahead for the Milan trip? I can still get the half fare for the Switzerland portion? Thank you so much for your help. I’ve been reading everything I can find and you site is very helpful.

It would save some money to buy the Italian train trip ahead of time (prices go up as you get closer to departure). If you do that then it is simplest to buy the Swiss leg separately, either online or in Zermatt (as prices don’t change in Switzerland).
