Hi, I am planning my day in the Jungfrau. We are starting in Interlaken, going up to Jungfraujoch, then hiking the Eiger trail from Eigergletscher to Alpiglen. From Alpiglen funicular down into Grindelwald. We will arrive in Grindelwald at approximately 5:00 pm. My question is, will it be worthwhile to go up to Grindelwald First for the cliff walk at that point? It looks like the last ascent is at 5:30 (we’re going in late July) but we will probably be too late for the flyer or the Trotti bikes (which are the other two activities I might be potentially interested in). Given the other activities we have planned for the day, is the cliff walk alone worth the cost of the gondola up to First (we have the swiss travel pass)? Any activities we should do in the town of Grindelwald itself instead? We will probably like to have dinner in Grindelwald before heading back to Interlaken, but not until 6:30ish, so we’ll have about an hour and a half to do/see something.

    Hi WTandBeyond,

If you’re staying for a few days in the Jungfrau region, a trip to Grindelwald First is definitely worth considering. I recommend allocating at least half a day for this trip so you can take time to enjoy the views and the activities on the mountain such as the First Flyer and First Glider. In addition to the First Cliff Walk, you could also hike the trail from First to the beautiful Bachalpsee. Riding the trottibikes all the way down to Grindelwald can be done at the end.

However if time is tight, there’s a much smaller mountain you can potentially explore in Grindelwald called Pfingstegg. The cable car ride to the top station takes only a few minutes and there’s a toboggan ride up there that you might like to try out. If you miss the last cable car down, you could easily hike down abt 1 hr to the village and reach Grindelwald in time for dinner.

Hope this gives you additional ideas to add to your itinerary.

    Regards,

    Anna
