My wife and I spent four glorious days/nights in the Swiss Alps this past mid-October. We were blessed with clear, crystal blue skies and temps between 68-72 F during our stay. We off-boarded from a Rhine river cruise in Basel and jumped on a Swiss train for a half day stop in Bern, then on to Lauterbrunnen for 3 days, a half day in Luzern and then flew home from Zurich. We love to hike and got in 3 nice hikes on both sides of the Lauterbrunnen Valley (with side trips up to Schilthorn and near to Jungfraujoch). On the way to the Zurich airport we rode the Golden Pass and enjoyed the spectacular vistas.

Many thanks for the plentiful and helpful information provided by the MySwissAlps.com webpage and the forum question & answers, especially from the expert forum responders! The Swiss train system is amazing (efficient, timely, clean) and we are glad we acted on the recommendation to purchase the 4 day Swiss travel pass. We even used the luggage forward service provided by Swiss Train to forward two large suitcases from Basel to Zurich so we could travel lightly with two backpacks during our four days and then pick up our luggage at the airport when we departed.

It was a special trip for us to a truly beautiful part of God’s creation and left us hoping that we can return to see more of it in the not too distant future. Thanks again!

    Hi G Wit-

Your post illustrates the really special part of the Swiss rail and travel system. They go out of their way to make travel easy and convenient.

When you travel on other less effective systems, the contrast of the Swiss system brings home just how hard the Swiss work to have a system that meets your definition of amazing.
