We will travel from Salzburg, Austria by train to Lucerne (2 nights), Interlaken(2nights) and Zermatt (3nights). We plan on doing Mt Titlis, Gronegrat, and Jungfrauloch. We plan on 4 days traveling in 8. Are we better off with a Switz-Austria eurailpass or a swisspass. This trip will start on August 25

    Hi kingart55,

My guess would be that a Swiss Travel Pass and a point to point ticket from Salzburg to the Swiss border is cheaper. The Eurail Austra-Switzerland Pass includes less benefits for Switzerland than a Swiss Travel Pass. E.g. Gornergrat is not included at all, and the train section from Visp to Zermatt is discounted, not free. You can compare the Eurail map with the Swiss Travel Pass map, and follow these instructions if you want to do the full calculation.

Thank you for a quick reply. I have been pricing it out and it seems that theSwiss Pass is the better option with a ticket from Salzburg to Buchs bought now.

Great! Now you can pick the cheapest point of sale for the pass. You can find them listed here. In your case (USA), http://www.raileurope-world.com looks like the best one right now. They offer the ticket for Austria as well.

    Enjoy your trip!

If I have a ticket to Buchs from Salzburg do I have to get off the train in Buchs to have the Swiss Pass validated as the train is continuing on to Zurich

Hi kingart55! No, you don’t have to get off the train. You can ask the train conductor to validate your pass before your reach the Swiss border.
