Just so we are on the same page, the pass that you mention. Please could you clarify which pass you will have or you are considering?
The boarding pass as you have discovered is to skip the queue at a guaranteed boarding time. August is still peak season, and also if the weather is favourable, the queues for Schilthorn could be quite busy. Typically after 9am it gets very busy. If you are able to visit earlier this could help avoid a longer wait, otherwise it may be worth purchasing the boarding pass if you don’t feel like waiting in the queue.

Thank you Yolanda. . I was referring to the boarding pass that allows you to skip the line. Does it allow you to skip the line at stechelberg or at murren or at both? Specifically, do you skip the lines all the way to the top?
If we rode the cable car from lauterbrunnen to grutschalp and the train to murren would the boarding pass be invalid at murren? If yes, then we are better off ascending from stechelberg.
If however the boarding pass allows us to skip the line at murren on the way to schilthorn, then we could ascend via grutschalp and murren and descend via murren and gimmelwald and stechelberg. If I am correct, this would require purchasing tickets for the transportation between lauterbrunnen and murren separately from the ticket between murren and schilthorn. Is it wise to prebook all these routes before arrival in Switzerland?

Finally, with my BO pass, can I just get on a Cable car or funicular what is included the area of validity of the pass?

The boarding pass you mentioned guarantees your departure time so you won’t have to wait in line. The boarding pass is only valid for the trip from Stechelberg to Mürren via the cable car. You can purchase a boarding pass to skip the line for the cable car to Schilthorn. It basically gives you priority boarding. It’s not necessary but could be useful if you have a tight schedule to stick to.
And yes, the Berner Oberland Pass provides free travelling on mountain transportation within its validity area. There is no need to purchase tickets. However you might need a card to access the gates for the cable cars and gondolas, in which case, all you need to do is present the Berner Oberland Pass at the ticket counter. As explained by Anna, most mountain transport is free with the Berner Oberland Pass. Just a heads-up, since this thread is about Schilthorn: that particular one is not fully covered by the Berner Oberland Pass. The ride to Mürren is free, but Mürren-Schilthorn is discounted by 50%.
