hi, we are on a trip to Paris and Switzerland from 25 Dec to 2 Jan. We are two adults travelling with our 12 year old son. Plan to leave from Paris on 28 Dec . Our tentative itinerary is:

    1. Paris to Lucern .Stay at Lucern and cover Mt.Jungfrau n Titlis along with Cruise ( 28-30)

    2. 31 st Lucerne to Zurich to enjoy New Year celebration

Alternatively, was thinking to include St.Gallen and so maybe go to Zurich first and then to St.Gallen ( stay overnight )

Then go to Lucerne or Interlaken .

Suggest what places best to stay for New Year’s ( Lucerne, Zurich or St.Gallen or Interlaken) . Or any other place so that we enjoy snow covered hills as well some quite old town stay?

Looking forward to a suggestive itinerary.

    TIA

Hi SSSingh and welcome to MySwissAlps!

I’d recommend larger towns typically over holidays like New Years. Tends to have more going on. But best to check with the local town tourist office for special events that you might be interested in.

I’d probably stick with Lucerne and Zurich as you have noted. However, Jungfraujoch is a long day from Lucerne (4 hours each way plus time on the mountain) http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

Lucerne will give you the nicest combination of nearby snow-covered mountains and the old town charm: http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne

Have you looked into a rail pass for your trip as well: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw issrailpasses
Note, if the adults have a Swiss Travel Pass or Swiss Half Fare Card then you can get the free Swiss Family Card for your son (he then travels free with you).

Hotels in Zurich and Lucerne specifically?

We have our own suggestions for those towns on our website:

If you’d like recommendations on hotels in general look here: http://www.myswissalps.com/ac commodation

If those don’t work for you let me know more details about the type of hotel, rooms, views, dates etc and I’ll see what I can find.

Thanks a ton…it’s very gud help.

How did abt Radisson at Lucerne…is it walking distance from station ?

We prefer to go for international chain for hotels for the standards of service …do not know about any renowned chain specifically for Switzerland, can u suggest some ?

The Radisson Blue Hotel Lucerne is right beside the train station next to the lake and is a very convenient location.

Larger chain hotels (Radisson, Holiday Inn, Ibis, Best Western etc.) tend to just have locations in larger cities in Switzerland: Zurich, Lucerne, Geneva.

That being said, Best Western & Ibis have the largest selection of hotels around Switzerland I think. They tend to offer 3 star options mostly if that is what you are looking for.

Relais & Chateaux has quite a few options as well for a higher quality hotel.

    Try a search with HotelsCombined.

I don’t have any personal knowledge on that hotel but it does have good ratings overall.

Great views too, but as you can see it is just outside of town… but only about 10 minutes by bus to Lucerne station

The Tell Pass doesn’t cover around Zurich. You can see on our Tell Pass page a PDF map with the area coverage: http://www.myswissalps.com/te llpasswinter/validity

The Swiss Travel Pass would be your best bet as it covers Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken and St. Gallen plus discounts on mountain trips: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isstravelpass/validity
