We are a family of 3 adults who wish to visit Mt Titlis and Junfrough for a day each on 14 & 15 December 2014. We will be grateful if someone could advise us regarding central / ideal location to stay and cheap accommodation therein. We would like to be as close to the train station as possible. Please also suggest if we should also visit Lucerne ,any suggestions for good cheap accomodation there,if we have another day and what all places to see/ is any lake cruise possible? Thanks a lot

    Hi minigiksviks,

Meiringen is in between the Titlis and Jungfraujoch, and Parkhotel du Sauvage is an example of an affordable hotel at 3 minutes walking from the rail station. More hotels in Meiringen and room rates can be found here: http://www.hotelscombined.com/Place/Meiringen.htm

Hotel and sightseeing tips (including boat trips) for Lucerne are here: http://www.myswissalps.com/lucerne/hotels.

Is it possible for us ( 3 adults) to take an apartment from 13th Dec evening till 16th Dec noon? We need a central location to be able to easily travel to Mt Titlis and Jungfrough.

Is there any other location which you would recommend other than Meiringen?

We also wanted to get an idea about the average cost of one meal per perosn, if we buy meal/ sandwitches from coop/ grocery store/ local restaurents? Please advise.

We are reaching Geneva airport from Rome on 10 Dec at 2230 hours and need to leave for Montreux early next morning. Can you please suggest a cheap hotel for us in close vicinity of airport as well as permitting us to catch the train next morning to Montreux?

    Thanks a lot

    Hi there,

Apartments are usually rented by the week, and never for half days. But you can have a look here and see if anything is available. You probably won’t save much compared to hotels, as there’s always cleaning costs on top of the rental price, which is relatively expensive for just a few days. There’s a cheap youth hostel in Interlaken, but that’s not the location you were looking for.

I think Meiringen is ideal as it is in between the locations you focus on and has some shops and restaurants. You can look into Brienz too. And smaller towns like Lungern and Giswil.

For food, please see this topic.

In Geneva, you can either choose an airport hotel or one close to the central rail station (that’s probably best for you). There are several at walking distance as you can see through the links.
