Swiss Alerts App with English alerts?

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Elissa is preparing for her visit to Lucerne and wants to know how to receive alerts from the AlertSwiss app in English instead of German. She has already downloaded the app but is struggling with the language barrier for weather updates.

Key takeaways:
  • To set the AlertSwiss app to English, check the language settings on your phone, but be aware that many alerts will still be in German.
  • Familiarize yourself with basic German weather terms to interpret alerts better, as some information may only be available in that language.
  • Use additional weather websites or apps as a backup for more reliable updates.

Based on comments in a forum I am subscribing to AlertSwiss. I have the app on my phone and recently received an alert for Lucerne ( one of my upcoming destinations). However, it’s in German. I s there a way I receive these alerts in English? Thanks!

    Hello Elissacl,

I also use the AlertSwiss App, especially these days with incredible storms it is a helpful (and active) app.

The App is set up in English on my iPhone but the majority of the messages are in German, true. There is, however, some minor text in English available at the bottom of some alerts.

I’m afraid you might have to become familiar with certain terms in German to interpret the messages correctly. Wind speed e.g. is understandable without knowing German.

Steph, thanks for the information. I’ll also use the weather sites as back-up. – Elissa
