    HI,

Our family need to arrive in Lauterbrunnen and we have 3 children under 14. We are traveling from Milano and to Lauterbrunnen, Jungfraujoch train, Golden Pass (Interlaken to Lucerne), train to Zurich all in 4 days of time.

    My question is –

    1. Is Swiss Half Fare card better deal for us or just point to point ticket would be equally priced or Swiss Railway pass better?

    2. Can I purchase Swiss Half Fare card or Swiss Railway pass (if this is better than SHF) on the day of travel at Domodossola, Italy station and use it to buy tickets for onward destination the same day?

    3. Does SHF give discount for Golden Pass also?

    4. Do I need to buy Swiss Half Fare card for my children also or just for adults?

    Thank you for your advice.

    Hi worldmap,

    1. For that amount of train travel you should look at either the Swiss Half Fare Card or the Swiss Travel Pass.
    2. You can buy either rail pass online and have it emailed to you to print at home (links to buy online above).
You can stay on the train in Domodossola with either pass (just buy two separate tickets – or just one if you have the Swiss Travel Pass which covers the train trip within Switzerland.
    3. The Swiss Travel Pass covers the Golden Pass route 100% and the Swiss Half fare card at 50% (reservations are extra with either pass if you choose).
    4. All your children would be covered 100% on all routes under the Swiss Family Card (free when ordering either rail pass above).

    Thank you Lucas.

When we purchase Swiss Half Card, do we need to buy it for children too? Like buying 5 Swiss Half Card and children gets free ride? Or children gets free ride with 2 adults having Swissues Card each? How many kids can ride free per one adult Swiss Half Card? We have 3 kids.

    Thank you.

When you order either rail pass you must, at the same time, order a Swiss Family Card which covers all children.

So every adult needs a Swiss Half fare Card or a Swiss Travel Pass and then you need 1 Swiss Family Card (free to add-on to your order) to cover all your children (5 to 15). Any under 5 are free at all times and need no ticket or pass.

So for a family of 2 adults and 3 kids you will have 3 passes total.
