We are travelling to Switzerland in June and are planning on the following : catching a train form Zurich to Lucerne, doing the Classic Rigi Round Trip and then the catching Willhelm Tell Express heading towards Como. Which is the most economical way to do this ? Is it better to book each separately or is it more economical to get a Swiss Pass of some sort? Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Hi MarioS, welcome to MySwissAlps!

It’s hard to give you a definitive answer, as this depends on the number of days you’ll be in Switzerland, the number and age of the travelers (any children?), and if the trips you mentioned is all you’ll be doing or just your main activities. Right now I would say the Swiss Travel Pass (includes free Mount Rigi rides) or Swiss Half Fare Card suit your plans best. Please see here for how to choose.

    Thanks Arno,

There are two adults and a student (19 years old) . We are landing in Zurich and travelling the same day to Lucerne, staying one night in Lucerne before heading off to Como .During our day in Lucerne, we wanted to go to Mount Rigi and then catch a train to Como. Thanks so much for your advice.

    Hi MarioS,

If it’s just two days a Swiss Travel Pass will probably not be economical (it’s available for 3 days or more), although it does include the entire Mount Rigi trip for free (boats, trains, cable cars). A Swiss Half Fare Card might be your best bet. Another option is to just buy regular tickets if you manage to find a cheap ticket from Lucerne to Como. Please see here for tips. The “how to choose” page Arno referred to will help you out with further details.
