    Hello,

We are traveling to Switzerland during the middle of July and we will be there for around four days. We were going to travel throughout Switzerland via the Swiss travel pass but we read that the Swiss Travel pass does not cover the area from Interlaken to Jungfrau and the regions in between (i.e. Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen). We wanted to confirm if this was true. Another question we had was if it was cheaper to get the Jungfrau travel pass as we will be traveling from Interlaken Ost to Jungfrau and the other towns (i.e. Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen) on each of the four days? Also do we need a train reservation to go from Interlaken to Jungfrau?

Hello ET and Welcome to MySwissAlps,

. . . . we read that the Swiss Travel pass does not cover the area from Interlaken to Jungfrau and the regions in between (i.e. Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen). We wanted to confirm if this was true.

No it’s not true. You can find out where the Swiss Travel Pass is valid at myswissalps.com/swisst ravelpass/validity.

Another question we had was if it was cheaper to get the Jungfrau travel pass as we will be traveling from Interlaken Ost to Jungfrau and the other towns (i.e. Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Wengen) on each of the four days?

It really depends on your overall Swiss itinerary – the Jungfrau Travel Pass is very regions specific. If you are travelling more broadly in Switzerland the Swiss Travel Pass may be better. You can see what is covered by the Jungfrau Travel Pass at http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrautravelpass and also look at the Regional Pass Bernese Oberland at http://www.myswissalps.com/re gionalpassberneseoberl and. Check the “Where it’s Valid” tab.

Once you have your itinerary mapped out you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math.

Also do we need a train reservation to go from Interlaken to Jungfrau?

No. Reservations are only possible, but still optional from Kleine Scheidegg to Jungfraujoch. See bit.ly/2JQKKSh for more detail.

“It was amazing, Switzerland is small but so much to see and it can be overwhelming to try to plan a weeks holiday and feel able to get the balance right. Our itinerary met all our requests. Annika’s personal approach is a breath of fresh air.”

Hey rockoyster thanks so much for the quick response. Just one more question. So is it advisable to book a ticket from Wengen to Jungfraujoch before hand or should we wait until a few days before to check the whether?

Check the weather. See bit.ly/2GmILXS which also has a link to webcams at the top of the page and/or get the MeteoSwiss app on your phone.

You can just buy tickets on the day you go up, or on the day before if you are sure the weather is looking good. Middle of July could be busy so you might want to spring for the reservations as well.
