Tickets for trip to Lauterbrunnen & Grindelwald

Short summary – read this first

Ohman 91 is planning a trip from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen and Grindelwald from June 5 to 9, with hiking and a possible visit to Jungfraujoch or Grindelwald First. They are seeking advice on the best ticket options for their travel, especially for the first and last days when they will travel directly between the airport and their destinations.

Key takeaways:
  • Consider using the Swiss Half Fare Card for discounts on all travel, as it offers flexibility and savings.
  • For Day 1 and Day 5, point-to-point tickets from the airport to Grindelwald will cover all necessary train changes.
  • The Jungfrau Travel Pass might include the Grindelwald-First cable car, so check if it suits your plans for hiking.
  • If arriving late, a single ticket from Zurich Airport to Grindelwald is more practical than a Saver Day Pass.

    Hello,

Which tickets would you suggest for the below trip:

    June 5-9th.

5th of June: Travelling from Zurich to Lauterbrunnen/Grindelwald, arriving between 21-22.00. So this entire day is just for getting there.

6-8th: Hiking around in the area and maybe visiting Grindelwald First + Jungfraujoch (at least one of them).

9th of June: Travelling back to Zurich early in the morning. Also just for getting to the airport.

Would the best option for day 1 and 5 be just a single ticket to the destinations? If I buy a single ticket to Lauterbrunnen, is the train from Interlaken -> Lauterbrunnen included in that price? And vice versa one going to the airport.

Is the Grindelwald-First cable car included in for example the “Jungfrau Travel Pass”?

If so, maybe the best option would be Single tickets Day 1 + 5, and then the Jungfrau Travel Pass Day 2-4?

Thank you in advance once again 🙂

    Hi Ohman 91,

Personally, I’d tend to a Swiss Half Fare Card. That way you’ll get good discounts, but you’ll also have the flexibility to go out of the region if the weather would require that (especially important for a short stay). Additionally perhaps Saver Day Passes for day 1 and 5.

Alternatively you can look into these options:

All the above pass pages show exactly what’s included (download the maps). For further comparison, please see http://www.myswissalps.com/tr ain/ticketspasses/prac tical/chooserailpass.

    Hi Arno,

    Thanks for the tip.

The thing about my first day, is that I will arrive at 22.00. So I wouldn’t have use for the saver day pass. I will go directly from Zurich airport to Grindelwald.

And the same about my return. I will go directly to the airport.

Would it be a better option to just buy a ticket from Z Airport -> Grindelwald and vice versa?

Because if I buy a single ticket from Airport to Grindelwald, it will cover both the train changes that needs to be done? (Bern and Interlaken) Or is that incorrect?

    Hi Ohman 91,

For day 1 and day 5, you can buy point to point tickets, however Arno’s point about the Half Fare card is to buy the card so it entitles you to 50% off any ticket price as you can see here: http://www.myswissalps.com/tr aintickets/switzerland halffare

You can read more about how the Swiss Half Fare Card works here: http://www.myswissalps.com/sw isshalffarecard

Point to point tickets are valid for the entire journey from where you depart (starting point) to where you arrive (end destination), so it will cover the connections as well of course.

Hope this helps with your planning!

    Maria.

    Hi Maria,

Thank you for the quick help 🙂 I will take a closer look on the half fare card. I will see if it will cover my next trip too, then it would be a great choice.

    Kind regards,

    Jonas.
