I wonder if anyone can help me? I'm considering a holiday to Grindelwald with my 15 yr old son this August but don't know how hard or easy it is to get rail connections into Grindelwald after landing at the airport. I'm not sure what airport I will be flying into yet, depends on the cost of flights from England. Do I need to purchase any rail passes and if so what type? We are planning on doing some local walks/hikes in the Grindelwald area. Thanks for any assistance you can give.

Hi docker1964,

You can reach Grindelwald from any airport. Basel airport doesn't have a train station but a short bus ride get you to the station in Basel. Bern is the closest but there are not many flights landing there. Here's more about the airports: myswissalps.com/ airports.

At first glance a Swiss Transfer Ticket Combi might be a good fit: it includes the ride from any airport to Grindelwald and back, and 50% discounts on trips during your stay. You son will travel for free. You can buy the ticket through www.swisstravelsystem. co.uk.

Hi docker1964.

Arno gave you the answers.

When you travel or make your plans, the timetable will be immensely helpful:

www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

it does give th fastest route as a default, but you can cause it to give a different route by using the "connections" or "via" entry box.

While you are there, there are many many trails:
