Travel by train from Geneva Airport to Wengen
-
In July, we will be traveling by train from the Geneva Airport to Wengen. We will have the Swiss Travel Pass for two adults and one older youth (age 19). We will also have a Swiss Family Card for our 15 year old. I plan to buy the passes online before we leave home. We want to do the scenic Golden Pass for a portion of our route. Below are my questions:
- Do we need to validate the Swiss Travel Passes and Swiss Family Card at our first train station or can we just board the train?
- Is the correct route to see the scenic Golden Pass: Geneva Airport to Montreux to Zweisimmen to Interlaken Ost to Lauterbrunnen to Wengen?
- Is the only portion I need to reserve seats Montreux to Zweisimmen?
- It appears the Montreux to Zweisimmen route is only every 2 hours. I can reserve the Montreux to Zweisimmen train based on a Geneva Airport departure 2.5 hours after our plane is scheduled to arrive. If we miss the Geneva airport train connection because of airport delays, are we going to still be able to travel to Wengen via Montreux or are those seats usually all sold out? If not, are we able to travel another route to get to Wengen?
- Lastly, for the entire route, what are the best sides of the train to sit on, especially Montreux to Zweisimmen?
Thank you for your assistance!
