    Hi

We are planning to drive from Baden Baden to Grindelwald next June 2021 and would like some advice please on the most scenic route. If we got to Wassen would it be best to go over the Susten pass to Grindelwald or on to Andermatt and then over the Furka pass to Grindelwald?

    Thanks

    Happy Pants

    Hi Happy Pants,

Good to know you are planning a visit in June 2021.

To answer your question, both the Furka Pass and Susten Pass are very scenic routes. If you are driving from Wassen, the most straightforward route would be to drive over the Susten Pass to Innertkirchen (Route 11) then onwards to Grindelwald. It’s about 50 km of winding road between Wassen and Innertkirchen, with spectacular views throughout. The pass is usually open mid June and because of the high elevation there may still be snow on the roads, so do check the weather and traffic info before your trip. A stop at the Aare Gorge in Innertkirchen is highly recommended if you are taking this route.

Alternatively, you could take the longer route, drive to Andermatt and take the Furka Pass. Andermatt is a lovely village and would be worth the detour if you have the time.

If you are not used to driving on the mountains, we have a few practical tips and suggestions on this page: http://www.myswissalps.com/car/drivinginthemountains

    Regards,

    Anna
