We’re visiting Wengen for the first time and we’ll be visiting for a week during the last week of August into September. What’s the weather like during that time? What can we expect? Wondering what type of clothing to bring.

    Hallo,

You can have nice weather with blue sky and very good temparatures, also in the mountains from 25 to 30 degrees. But it is also possible you have cold weather with rain and snow. The weather can be change very quicky in 30 minutes. We had snow in July on First, very beatiful, but on the same time you can walk only in a shirt…….

    Greetings from the Netherlands, Brahms

Indeed, be prepared for anything. Here’s an interesting example: myswissalps.com/forum/ topic/expect-the-unexpected. On average the weather will be really nice around that time.

Thin layers are always best for Switzerland regardless of time of year. That way you can pile on (or off) the layers as the weather changes from day to day — and sometimes within the same day! Best materials are the new moisture-wicking, fast-drying types. We bring T-shirts, long sleeved top, vest, a long sleeved fleece garment if you are planning to visit the high peaks (such as Jungfraujoch), a wind shirt, and always a rain jacket with a hood. We usually wear hiking pants with zip off bottoms that can convert to shorts. If you are planning to visit Jungfraujoch you may also want gloves.

Hiking boots/shoes are accepted footwear even in the fancy restaurants!
