We will be heading to Paris from Montreux and we’ll have one day left on our Swiss Travel Pass. I know the pass is not valid on the TGV Lyria train to Paris which we will want. But we can use the last day of our passes to get to either Lausanne or Geneva from Montreux. And then get the TGV Lyria train the rest of the way.

So my question is: Which is the best and most scenic route to Paris Gard de Lyon, from Geneva or from Lausanne?

I came the other way round i.e. from Gare-de-Lyon to Genevé via TGV Lyria and the route was quite nice (1 week back). The same train was heading to Lausanne from Genevé.

If you board in Lausanne the Swiss Travel Pass does cover the train until the border (Vallorbe).

Annika, I’ve never even heard of Vallorbe! Is the train from Montreux to Vallorbe using our Swiss Travel Pass, and then the TGV Lyria train from Vallorbe to Paris Gard de Lyon what we should be doing?

    Hi Canadarocks,

If you download the Swiss Travel Pass map you can find Vallorbe on the western border. It happens to be where the TGV Lyria from Lausanne to Paris crosses the border. You don’t get off the train there (unless you want to of course). It’s just relevant because the Swiss Travel Pass covers trains to that point. So you only need a ticket from Vallorbe to Paris.

Thank you so much for explaining it Arno. We’ll board the Lausanne train with our Swiss Travel Passes, and we’ll pay for TGV tickets from Vallorbe to Paris.
