    Hi everyone!

We will be traveling around Switzerland and have our Airbnbs booked so we know which cities we will be in and the dates we will be there. We need some assistance in choosing the best and most affordable pass.

We will be leaving Zurich to Lake Lucerne. Then Lucerne to Zermatt. Lastly, Zermatt back to Zurich airport.

    Suggestions? Thanks so much!

    Hi katieanders, welcome to MySwissAlps!

Which pass is best for your journey, depends on lots of details. For example: when will you be traveling? How long do you intend to stay in each base town? What side trips do you intend to make? Are boat rides and mountain transportation involved? I suggest you start off with studying our "how to choose" page and comparing a couple of passes that seem to match your requirements. Most travelers end up with either a Swiss Travel Pass or a Swiss Half Fare Card. Of coure you’re welcome to get back to us with specifics about your itinerary!

    Thank you!

We will be traveling in April.

Day 1: Travel from Zurich airport to Central Zurich

Day 3: Travel from Central Zurich to Lake Lucerne

Day 5: Travel from Lucerne to Zermatt

Day 7: Travel from Zermatt to Zurich Airport.

We don’t intend to make very many, if any side trips due to lack of time. We will be spending 2 nights in each destination. I am struggling between deciding between the Swiss travel or the Swiss half.

    Hope this makes sense!

    Hi katieanders,

I can think of these options in your case:

    1. If you don’t mind buying tickets for each trip, the Swiss Half Fare Card can be used for your entire stay.
    2. An 8-day Swiss Travel Pass for your entire stay.
    3. A 4-day Swiss Travel Pass for day 4 to 7. On day 1 to 3 you can use local day cards in Zurich and a regular single ticket from Zurich to Lucerne.

The Swiss Travel Pass allows free traveling on all town to town trains, all boats, all public transport within cities, and also Mount Rigi and Pilatus. Most museums are included as well.

To see if there’s any difference price wise, you’d better follow the instructions on the How to choose page Annika linked to.
