Hello. Advice would be much appreciated! We have a Swiss Rail Pass.

Zurich to Lucern. Do we just get on the train? No reservation required and no seat number. Is this correct?

Lucern to Interlaken. No reservation required and no seat number. Is this correct? This would be the Lucerne-Interlaken Express?

Lucern to Montreux. No reservation required and no seat number. Is this correct? This would be the Golden Pass train?

Montreux to Geneva. No reservation required and no seat number. Is this correct?

Thanks for your time. Just a bit confused!!

    Charles

If you have a Swiss Travel Pass, then yes – just get on the train and have your pass ready to show along with your ID when the conductor comes by to check that you have a pass or ticket. I have traveled with a Swiss Travel Pass many times and never made a reservation except for the few special buses or trains that require a mandatory reservation. (There is a fee for the seat reservation.) Your route does not require a seat reservation. If you have a “second class” Swiss Travel Pass, be sure to get on the train cars marked with a “2” as the train cars marked with a “1” are only for those with a “first class” pass or ticket.

Hi Chaz, thanks for joining MySwissAlps!

Lastlook has provided excellent advice. Your understandings are all correct. Just hop on with your Swiss Travel Pass without any prior reservations: https://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/howtouse. The only exceptions are some panoramic/international trains: https://www.myswissalps.com/train/reservations.

You’ll travel on the GoldenPass line. You can make reservations for the stretch Zweisimmen-Montreux, but it’s not required: https://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets. You don’t have to bother with reservations if you won’t be traveling in tourist high season (https://www.myswissalps.com/besttimetovisit).
