How the map works

  • Unlimited traveling applies to the dark lines on the map.
  • Light lines are discounted routes.

How does the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass work?

It is quite easy: on all the lines that allow unlimited traveling (see the map), you can board and enjoy the ride. You don’t need tickets. Show your pass when requested.

How to start using the pass

You either receive a paper pass, or a voucher via e-mail. The voucher can be exchanged for a physical pass at any staffed train station in the Jungfrau Region.

There’s the option to load the pass onto a SwissPass or a keycard (Axess or SkiData). This should be done during purchase. This method is suitable for locals owning one of these cards. It’s not required or recommended for tourists.

Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass travel days

The travel days are consecutive. Even if you don’t travel on such a day, it still counts as a travel day.

Seat reservations

You do not need seat reservations for traveling in the Jungfrau region. All you need is your Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass. If you prefer to have seat reservations, you need to arrange for them separately. Seat reservations are not included in the pass. Seat reservations are offered for the trip to Jungfraujoch.

What to present to on-board staff

Once you’re on board, you will need to present your Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass (and the discounted ticket if applicable) to the staff upon request. The ticket controller may want to check your passport as well, to make sure you’re the owner of the pass.

In the case of cableways, your pass will be checked before you board.

When do you need additional tickets?

There are two types of trips:

  1. Trips on routes that allow unlimited traveling. You can board any train, bus, etc. on such routes. You do not need a ticket. This applies to most of the covered area.
  2. Trips on other routes. You need to arrange for a (discounted) ticket at the ticket office of staffed rail stations, from a ticketing machine, or online. This applies to Jungfraujoch, for example.

There are various cableways that also allow free traveling. In some cases, you can scan your Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass to enter the cableway or funicular. It not, ask the personnel upon showing your pass. You’ll receive you a free ticket to open the turnstiles.

Insider tips about the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass

  • For the best panoramic overview of all of the Jungfrau Region, take a trip to either Schilthorn or Jungfraujoch. Do note that both are not free, but discounted.
  • A free panoramic trip would be a train ride from Lauterbrunnen to Kleine Scheidegg (with an optional break at Wengen). Then, travel either down to Grindelwald by train, or up to Eigergletscher by train and finally down to Grindelwald by cableway.
  • Rides to Männlichen and First are free as well.

Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass FAQ

  1. How do I know if the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass is my best option?

If you’re sure you’ll only travel within the Jungfrau Region, and if you’ve planned sightseeing but no skiing, it’s a very good option. If you want to explore more of the Bernese Oberland or all of Switzerland, we recommend considering the Swiss Travel Pass.

You can search for further alternatives here.

  2. When do I need to buy the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass?

You can buy it in winter: early January to late April and early December to late December. The pass is usually available a few weeks in advance.

  3. Should I use the Jungfrau Travel Pass Winter instead?

There is indeed another winter pass with similar benefits, called “Jungfrau Travel Pass Winter”. However, it’s more expensive than the Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass. That’s why we don’t recommend it.

  4. I don’t travel in winter, is there an alternative pass?

Yes, you can consider the similar Jungfrau Travel Pass.
