Must-knows about Switzerland’s regional passes

  • A regional pass can be a good choice if you focus on just one region of Switzerland.
  • A nation-wide pass is better if you explore several areas.
  • Some regional passes cover a large area (e.g. the Lucerne Travel Pass and the Berner Oberland Pass), while others cover only a small region (e.g. the Jungfrau Travel Pass).
  • Most regional passes are paid. Only the Ticino Ticket, the Montreux Riviera Card, and a few offers in the Engadine are free for hotel guests.
  • Most regional passes are valid all year long. The Jungfrau Winter Hiking and Sledging Pass is an exception.

Popular regional passes for the Bernese Oberland, Jungfrau Region, and Lake Lucerne

The Berner Oberland Pass, Jungfrau Travel Pass, and Lucerne Travel Pass are the most used by tourists. The Jungfrau Hiking and Sledging Pass can be a good alternative to the Jungfrau Travel Pass if you’re visiting in winter.

More regional options for the Valais, Graubünden, and Lake Geneva

The Matterhorn Gotthard Pass allows free and discounted trips in eastern Valais and western Graubünden. The graubünden Pass can be helpful if you focus on the large canton of Graubünden, but most mountain routes are not included. The Regional Pass Lake Geneva-Alps provides free and discounted traveling around Lake Geneva and the mountains east of it.
