Must-knows about the mountains of Switzerland

  • There are many mountaintops to visit throughout Switzerland: even in lower areas such as southern Ticino.
  • The Swiss peaks are easy to reach. They’re accessible by cogwheel trains, funiculars, large cable cars, and small gondolas.
  • Reservations are usually not required.
  • The weather in the mountains can change quickly. Check the forecast and mountain webcams before going up.
  • Although it can be comfortable and sunny at the top, be prepared for low temperatures and strong wind.
  • Swiss mountain tickets are quite expensive. A rail pass will get you discounted or even free rides.
