It's easy to go up into the Swiss mountains

The mountains in Switzerland are easy to access. There are cable cars, funiculars and cogwheel trains throughout the country. That allows everyone to enjoy the high alpine scenery. Try not to leave Switzerland without having visited a mountain top or two!

Insider tips about the Swiss mountains

  • On average the weather for going up into the mountains is best in the morning;
  • The air is thin at higher altitudes, from about 2000 m up. Take your time to adjust to it. If you plan to visit the highest peaks it's advisable to consult your doctor if you take along children under 3 years old or if you're in poor health;
  • A rail pass will get you a discount on many mountain excursions. If you don't have one, you can still get a discount in some cases, with special tickets that allow traveling in the early morning or late afternoon only.
