Lavertezzo-Ganne: the facts

  • Hiking time: 1h45
  • Difficulty: moderate
  • Elevation: 535 – 685 m
  • Distance: 4.7 km
  • Terrain: valley trail along a river, meadows and forests
  • Region: Lake Maggiore (Ticino)
  • Nearest larger town: Locarno

About this trail

Lavertezzo is a tiny village in the Verzasca Valley. The Ponte dei Salti (jumping bridge) is just outside the village, and you’ll cross it to start your hike on the other side of the Verzasca river.

You won’t cross the river again, but you will cross a few side streams. That can be challenging if there happens to be a lot of water. The path itself is pretty doable, with rocks and tree roots, so hiking shoes are required. Poles are recommended. You’ll cross forests and some meadows. About 300 m before the end of the route you’ll cross the picturesque hamlet of Ganne, with less than 10 houses.

Directions and map

How to reach Lavertezzo

Lavertezzo can best be reached by bus, for example from Locarno. There is limited parking.

How to travel back from Ganne

From Ganne, you can travel back by bus. The buses do not operate frequently, so be sure to check the schedule.

The hiking route

You can find the route on the map below. We offer detailed directions as well:

  • From the bus stop, take the path going north, towards the bridge (Ponte dei Salti) and away from the village. It’s worth it to take a look at the village of Lavertezzo first.
  • Cross the bridge and turn right. Be careful on the bridge. It is narrow and the walls on both sides are low. It was never designed for many tourists. It can get crowded here on sunny summer days.
  • Follow the signs in the direction of Brione and Ganne, until you reach the bus stop, about 300 m after the hamlet of Ganne.
