    Hello everyone,

I trust this finds you well. I’m planning my trip to Switzerland in August looking to stay around 10-14 days in Switzerland. I checked the forum here (by the way, excellent), but I’m stuck in a question between cars or trains. I’m traveling with my girlfriend, that’s the reason I’m trying to save money on the train ticket. However, I’m not sure how works to visit certain locations e.g. Interlaken by car. For instance, should I park in the valley and get the cable car to go around? I’m not sure if getting the cable car I have time to come back to the place where I left the car on the same day.

Could you please someone with more experience to advise what would be the best approach? Car and train? Pay the Swiss pass and dont rent a car.. I’m little bit lost 🙁

Below I added what I have so far as my itinerary

    Zurich

    Rhine Falls

    basel

    bern

    lucena

    interlake

    Beatenberg

    Jungfraujoch

    wengen

    Lauterbrunnen

    Grindelwald

    Blausee

    Montreux

    geneva

    Zermatt

    lugano

    st moritz

Thank you Dan!! All the best!

Save yourself a lot of problems and just get a Swiss Travel Pass for the length of time you’ll be in Switzerland. Travel light – one small rolling suitcase (carry-on size) and a day pack each. Everything runs on time and frequently. Have a wonderful trip!

Travelling by car is only sensible if it is your own car which you have driven from another European country. Otherwise just buy a Swiss Travel Pass.

Thank you, everyone, much appreciated your replies. Very helpful. I’m checking the provided links.

I’m thinking to go by train seems, in the end, it will be cheaper and safest. Considering that I’m traveling with my girlfriend is there any better option to buy the tickets and try to save some money? Both passes together I assume it will cost approx. 1000CHf.

Planning to go in August, is still possible to see ice/snow on top of the mountains?

Thank you all, all the best.

    Hi Dan,

The train is an excellent choice. You’ll see more along the way, and it will be more relaxed. Two 15-day Swiss Travel Passes are CHF 858 in total, excluding any discounted excursions. Please find prices and discount options here: http://www.myswissalps.com/swisstravelpass/price.

Whether there’s a cheaper option can be calculated: http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass

How much snow there’s still left in August depends on the summer weather, you should aim for the highest peaks, like Jungfraujoch, Titlis, Klein Matterhorn and Mittelallalin: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities/naturalsites/mountains.
