    Hi SheilaV –

    Welcome to My Swiss Alps

I have not studied your itinerary in detail because I see a lot of problems with it, probably because:

<<“Some are repetitions as I am not sure which is the nearest place to cover those places.”>>

    That shows.

Some of your proposals won’t work due to timing, others because you have locations mixed up. Day one will take approximately 1 1/2 to perhaps 2 days. Day 9 confuses me….it seems that yuou have listed many some places that are not in the locations that you specify, and the total…if you mean it that way….would take most of a week, I’d guess. Depends on how much time you want to spend in each place that you name. For example, what exactly do you want to do in Zug?

And, day 1 will be more difficult if you are jet-lagged. Where will you be coming from when you come to Switzerland?

Here some things to read to help you plan a trip, and to get more help from the members of this forum:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/fo rum/rules

In particular, it s almost impossible to give accurate advice , especially about things whose operation varies with the seasons.

Please tell us your travel dates.

This is useful… several of the links will help you get as better feel for the country and traveling in it:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ge ttingstarted

This one may have more than you need, but it can help you with thought about how to organize a trip:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/pl antrip/doityourself/co mposeitinerary

One key point is to think about what you want to see and do….not just create a list of famous names. Do you want to hike? See museums? Scenic mountains? Old towns in the cities? etc.

I can see you have started to do that, but if we offer advice, a knowledge of your perspectives will help us immensely.

Here is what I do once I have some ideas and are trying to string together some locations.

I look at a good map for traveling to see where things are, and use the tools in it:

    map.search.ch/

    map.search.ch/?pos=636568,165816&z=32 &poi=bergbahn,halteste lle,zug

There are many useful tools in the menus, especially under “Points of Interest” ( The star in a circle).

If you turn on the station icons ( under “Traffic), and mouse over them, you get an exact official name for each station or stop:

    map.search.ch/?pos=636568,165816&z=32 &poi=bergbahn,halteste lle,zug

(Although Google Maps is helpful, it is not particularly useful for Switzerland, because it does not help much with the trains).

You can use those names in the timetable to understand how long it takes to get around – whether cross country or in cities or famous destinations:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ti metable

There are very useful tips on that page. Please read them.

If you need to learn more about particular regions or famous scenic places, use these links:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/wh eretogo

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ac tivities/naturalsites

A chance to spend 10 days in Switzerland is a very special event. It is even better if you have used those tools to organize your travel to the places you particularly want to see. You will have a fabulous visit.

    Hi

Appreciate very much for your prompt reply. I will be reaching on 4/9/2019 and departing on 14/9/2019.

I am very much interested in nature, scenic mountains and also some culture.

I would like to cover as much as possible as I am a solo traveller and Switzerland is my childhood dream place. I do not think so that I will be making a trip back here again due to budget constraint.

I have not booked any hostels yet because not sure which area I should stay.

    Please advice.

    Thank you

    Hi Sheila –

Your wishes are all over the map.

As you think about which locations you will be able to visit from any base, use the map I suggested, plus the timetable.

For a 10 day trip, normally, we would advise two, or at most three bases. However, some people who travel light and do not have to manage a family with children and/or lots of baggage don’t mind moving more frequently. It is a personal choice.

Much of what you have listed can be reached reasonably well from a base near Luzern, and at one of the villages in he Jungfrau Region.

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ju ngfrauregion,

or, possibly the broader region which includes the Jungfrau Region:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/be rneseoberland

Normally, we recommend on of the four villages described under “Where to Stay” on the Jungfrau Region page – Grindelwald, Mürren, Wengen, and Lauterbrunnen. That section gives a good introduction to the possible choices.

Each listing for a town or city gives some choices for “Where to Stay.”

    For example:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/lu cerne/hotels

Also, in general, this link describes types of accommodations:

    http://www.myswissalps.com/ac commodation

Interlaken is a better base in the Jungfrau region when you do a lot of traveling to places outside the region; those four villages are a better base for exploring the Jungfrau region.

If you want to chose 3 bases, you might add Montreux.

That’s a start. From those bases can visit many of the locations on part-day trips. Some will be close by, others several hours away. For example, the Ticino ( Lugano/Locarno/Ascona/ etc.) has excellent and frequent train service from Luzern and Zürich. However, it does take a few hours each way, plus time in the region.

No matter how many bases you choose, you will not be able to do all the things you listed, unless maybe you just take a 5 minute look and move on. Even then it will be hard, likely impossible, and you will need to plan your travels very very carefully with the timetable.

It is rather late to plan a trip in early September of this year. Although there will not be so many tourists as in July and August, early September has very nice weather ( usually) and attracts a lot of tourists.

Good luck on getting your preferred accommodation.

    Hello SheilaV,

You indeed have lots on your bucket list and might have to consider setting priorities.

I would also recommend you set your bases first and then plan from there using the timetable provided by Slowpoke to figure out traveling times and connections. If you are fine with staying in a different place each night, this is of course fine, too.

I recommend to look at the Swiss Travel Pass for traveling, which provides you with the freedom of changing your plans if needed, as it covers all the regular train connections (some mountain excursions excluded).

To find out about the Swiss Travel Pass and how it works, make sure to check all the tabs of below link:

    Happy planning.

    Best,
    Steph

Btw: You will find information about most of the places you mention by typing them into the search bar of this page and then checking all the tabs per page.

I agree with all comments above. We are going for 14 days and are allowing ourselves some time for jet lag. Except for the 1st and last night , we are staying three nights at most places.
