2 nights Interlaken area: Beatenberg or Interlaken

Short summary – read this first

A traveler named Belinda2109 is planning a 2-night stay in the Interlaken area, considering Beatenberg for its beautiful lake views. They want to visit Spiez, Thun, and Blausee using public transport and are seeking advice on whether Beatenberg is a suitable choice for their peaceful stay in nature, especially since they will be traveling in early May.

Key takeaways:
  • Beatenberg offers stunning lake views and is a good base for trips to Thun and Spiez, with quick access via funicular and bus or boat.
  • For easier access to Blausee, consider staying in Spiez instead of Beatenberg.
  • Utilize the SBB timetable to effectively plan your day trips to various attractions.

    Hi!

I’m planning for a 2-night stay around the Interlaken area, but also chanced upon several accomodations at Beatenberg that have beautiful lake views.

My plans are to visit Spiez, Thun, Blausee during this time before moving on to Lucerne next. Was wondering if Beantenberg might be a good place to stay or will be more inconvenient to travel since I’m planning to move around by public transport?

My preference is for a peaceful stay near nature as opposed to the city area. I also have another 2 days around the Grindelwald/Wengen area before that, so these areas are settled.

Appreciate any advices! Thank you 🙂

    Hi Belinda2109,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

You are right. Beatenberg is a good place to stay and offers lovely views of the lake. From Beatenberg you can do various hikes to Niederhorn, Beatenbucht and St Beatus’ Caves. As a base for trips to Thun and Spiez, I think it’s reasonable. You can travel fairly quickly with the funicular from Beatenberg to Beatenbucht, then take either the bus or boat to Thun and Spiez.

However the location is not actually convenient for day trips outside of the area such as Blausee. But with good planning, it is still possible. You can use the SBB timetable to plan your day trip.

    Regards,

    Anna

    Hello Anna!

Nice to hear from you 🙂 Thank you so much for the recommendations, the hikes that you mentioned look amazing too! Perhaps I should consider going those areas instead of Lake Blausee. Forgot to mention that I’ll be travelling in early May.

If I still wish to visit Blausee, will Spiez be a better option to stay in?

    Hi again,

I think it’s definitely easier to plan a day trip to Blausee from Spiez.

    Regards,

    Anna
