5-lakes hike from Blauherd and lunch at Findlerhof

Short summary – read this first

Stacey and her husband want to hike the 5 Lakes Trail and have lunch at the Findlerhof. They're unsure if the trail passes by the restaurant and are looking for advice on how to coordinate cable car schedules, hiking time, and making reservations. They are hoping to plan this excursion for a full day.

Key takeaways:
  • Start your hike by taking the Sunnegga-Rothorn funicular to Blauherd, where the 5-lake trail begins.
  • Allocate a full day for the entire trip, including hiking and lunch.
  • Use the SBB timetable to check train and cable car schedules for smooth planning.
  • Reserve your table at Findlerhof in advance to ensure a spot, ideally a few days ahead.

    Hi,

My husband and I would some how like to do the 5 Lakes Hike (or a shorter version of) and have lunch at the Findlerhof. We weren’t sure if the trail even goes by the Findlerhof or not. If we could maybe combine a couple of the more scenic lakes and lunch here, that would be great, too. We would also like to make reservations, but not sure how to work out the time combined with cable cars up, hiking, time for photos, etc. Also, how far in advance do you recommend a reservation here?

    Any advice is greatly appreciated!

    Thank you,

    Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

Based on you plans, you could probably start your excursion by taking the Sunnegga-Rothorn funicular and gondola to Blauherd. The 5-lake trail begins at Blauherd. You’ll be walking mostly downhill past the five lakes towards Sunnegga. From Sunnegga you can continue walking down to Findeln or Findelbach. At Findelbach, you can take the cogwheel train down to Zermatt. You probably need to allocate a full day for this trip.

You can find information about the 5-lake Hike here: http://www.zermatt.ch/en/Media/Planning-hikes-tours/5-Lakes-Walk-Nr.-11

You can use the SBB timetable to check train and cable car schedules: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable
