Extra costs for mountains with Swiss Travel Pass?
A couple is planning a trip to Switzerland and has questions about accessing Mount Rigi and Pilatus with the Swiss Travel Pass, alongside other activities near Lucerne and Interlaken for rainy days. They're also curious about the best route to Jungfraujoch and ticketing details for their journey.
- You don’t need extra tickets with the Swiss Travel Pass for Mount Rigi and Pilatus, but you do need tickets for the cable cars.
- You can purchase tickets for the Jungfraujoch on the day of travel from Interlaken OST.
- Reservations for the cable cars and trains are usually not required, but check the weather first.
- It's fine to buy the Swiss Travel Pass from the SBB international guest section online, as it's quick and straightforward.
- Kids can usually travel free with a family pass, but double-check current policies.

Hi
Couple of questions –
1. As I understand Mount Rigi and Pilatus would come free with Swiss travel pass (STP). Do we need any other “access pass” to get into Cog wheel train or Aerial cable for Rigi or pilatus or can we just get into it with the STP? Is any reservation required ?
2. If we are unable to do Alps on rainy or cloudy days, could you please suggest any other places around lucerne or interlaken, I understand we can Panorama express or cruise or museums but if we like to see beautiful places, which ones would you recommend within travel distance of 1-2 hours?
3. Which is more preferred route from interlaken to Kliens for Jungfraujoch, is it option 1 via Lauterbrunnen or option 2 via Grindelwald, can we go up one way and come down the other way ?
Thanks for your help.
