Hi Lambie, thanks for joining MySwissAlps!

Just to make sure I understand your trip: do you plan to stay in Basel for 4 nights and make day trips from there?

First of all: the Swiss timetable will be a huge planning help. It allows you to see travel times between all the towns on your wish list, helping you estimate how much time you can actually spend in each town. Here’s how it works: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel/train/timetable/

Enjoying a short exploration in both Zurich and Lucerne in one day is doable. I recommend these city hikes to see all of the highlights in just a few hours:

When traveling back from Lucerne to Basel, you could make a scenic detour via Langnau in the Emmen Valley and Bern, if you have time and energy left.

I feel that visiting Bern, Interlaken, and Grindelwald is quite a lot for one day from Basel. Just to give you an idea: it’s a 2h50 single journey from Basel to Grindelwald. I’d leave out one of these towns, and maybe spend another of your day trips just exploring the Jungfrau Region with Grindelwald and the Lauterbrunnen Valley.

Sightseeing suggestions can be found in our town and region guides:

I hope this gets you started!

Annika. Thank you for your prompt reply. I did submit a more detailed description of my travel thoughts through your email support system. I have never been to Switzerland and I am not experienced with European public transportation options (train travel specifically). I look forward to your travel guidance.
