Arriving from the US: Swiss entry requirements?

Short summary – read this first

Stacey is heading to Zurich for her first international trip from the US and is feeling a mix of excitement and nerves. She's already sorted her passport, itinerary, and medical insurance, and is looking for further advice on what to prepare, especially about COVID-19 measures and documentation requirements. It's reassuring that no proof of vaccination is needed for entry now.

Key takeaways:
  • Keep printed copies of your flight itinerary, accommodation bookings, and travel insurance handy.
  • It's a good idea to have a list of important phone numbers for your cards and a digital copy of your passport.
  • Notify your banks about your travel plans to avoid any issues with your cards while overseas.

    Hi,

This will be my first international trip from the US landing in Zurich. I’m very excited, but also a bit nervous. If I’m prepared, I will feel a little more at ease. Just wondering if anything can be filled out ahead time? I have a valid passport, complete itinerary, and international medical insurance. Is there anything I might be missing? There doesn’t seem to be any Covid requirements. Will I need my vaccination card? Any advice on the process is helpful.

    Thank you,

    Stacey

    Hi Stacey,

How exciting. Though I can appreciate you are also a little nervous too.

There are currently no entry restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. No proof of vaccination, recovery or testing is required for entry into Switzerland.

You can read our handy guide to Swiss entry rules here: https://www.myswissalps.com/visa

US passports should be valid for 3 months after the intended departure date.

Personally, (excuse any duplications), I like to have print out copies of my flight itinerary, passport, any accommodation bookings, travel insurance, that sort of thing with me.

Some travelers may have particular medication they are taking, these may need an accompanying doctors’ note?

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Stacy, one of the things I always have available while out of the country, is a list of phone numbers I may need to call should I lose my passport and/or wallet. Such as the phone numbers on all my credit cards. I may need to cancel them or arrange for a replacement. I always have a picture of my passport on my phone. I still have pictures of my vaccination cards. I’ll actually still probably take my originals with me when I go to Switzerland in a week. Just because you never know what might happen. I store all this data in a cloud accessible storage somewhere so I can get at them from my phone. I bring a paper copy with me too. A couple copies of the passport stored in various luggage locations

I make a plan to decide on a primary and backup credit card. I usually take a 3rd card just in case and keep it hidden in my luggage somewhere. I also have 2 debit cards. Any additional cards I leave home. I empty my wallet of anything else I may not need.

Be sure to notify your credit card and debit card banks of your travel. You can usually do this in your online account. Some banks specifically say this is no longer necessary.
