Nisha – it’s impossible to book a panoramic seat in any GEx and BEx for section Chur-Filisur-Chur. You choose local trains or non-reserved car in Bernina Express.

    Hello Nisha

This what we accomplished in 2 days in April.

Arrived in Chur by 10.30 AM

In the afternoon we took Chur – Arosa . Very scenic. We had snow fall during the climb, which was enjoyable, but prevented us taking a Gandola lift / Cable car in Arosa, which you can do. Back to Chur in the evening.

Next day we took morning Regional train from Chur to St. Moritz which goes via Filisur and all regional trains are PE’s (Panoramic)

In the afternoon we took Train back from St. Moritz to Disentis , which is same route back till Reichenau-Tamins and you change to RE 7 to Disentis. Towars Disentis first 20-25 mins are very scenic where train passes along Rhine river. We went to Disentis and came back to Chur in the evening. At Disentis there is a heritage monastery worth visiting and on the way a nice cozy coffee place.

All our journeys were using Swiss pass and all RE’s are PE’s. (Not same as Bernina or Glacier type but almost the same) By the way Reichenau-Tamins to Disentis is part of Galcier express route.

    Hope this is useful

Shashank – don’t confuse Nisha 🙂 Trains signed “PE” (“Panorama Express”) they are “Bernina Express” and “Glacier Express” only. None any local trains signed “PE”, so you didn’t going by “PE” trains (eventually except unreserved car in “Bernina Express”).

Nisha – absolutelly the best option for you (if you really planning to go from Chur to Filisur only) will be take a regional trains as Shashank mentioned.

    Hi Nisha,

    Welcome to MySwissAlps.

In addition to Shashank and Kamil’s replies, you can read all about the Bernina Express and Glacier Express train rides below:

If you do choose to travel on the actual Bernina and Glacier trains, seat reservations are necessary, which are independent of your rail ticket.  I’d book these soon, as they can sell out.  All explained in the above links.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

    Hi Nisha,

Yes, that’s a good idea.  If you are on a time restraint, you can still enjoy sections of the route that suit your schedule.

    Happy travels.

    Kind regards,

    Yolanda

Hi team. One more question..as i can see only one morning timing in bernina express..incase i take normal train (not panaromic) then will tickets be covered in swiss travel pass. I can see from shashanks reply that RE trains are covered in swiss pass but when i chk shows no discounts. Is there any specific train name/number i shd chk to get tickets covered in swiss travel pass

If you have a Swiss Travel pass no separate ticket is required on RE’s IR’s. Even Chur – Arosa a mountain train is covered on Swiss Travel Pass.

    Hi Nisha,

Yes, with the Swiss Travel Pass you can enjoy unlimited travelling on the regional trains including those that run along the Bernina railway.

You can view and download the Swiss Travel Pass validity map here: https://www.myswissalps.com/travel-ticket/swiss-travel-pass/#downloads

Nisha, it’s impossible to book a panoramic seat in any GEx and BEx for section Chur-Filisur-Chur. You choose local trains or non-reserved car in Bernina Express. RhB/MGB don’t sell reservation for short sections and allow only longer journeys.

    Hi Nisha,

Reading through all these posts, I can honestly recommend not worrying about either the Bernina or the Glacier Express. Either way, you are only on the route for about an hour. As mentioned above, there is no reason to worry about reservations and the additional cost, just to ride for about an hour or so. I rode the Bernina Ex to St Moritz (from Lugano, bus) to Tirano, and from there the next morning, rode the local train to Chur to catch the Glacier Ex to Zermatt. That was a two hour ride with Filisur being basically the halfway point. The scenery is the same. Again, as mentioned above, there is no difference, and no reason to concern oneself about reservations that aren’t even available. (If you’re going to Filisur just to hike to the Landwasser Viaduct, just go… It’s about a half-hour walk/hike to get there.) And, again, as mentioned above, if you have the Swiss Travel Pass, you’re covered, all you have to do is go.

I hope you have a great trip.

    Regards,

    Danielsan
