Candi is planning a trip on the Bernina Express from Chur and wants to know if she can travel to St Moritz, given her time constraints. She is looking for the best way to experience this iconic route without taking the full trip.
Key takeaways:
You can travel from Chur to St Moritz and back without doing the full Bernina Express route.
The Bernina Express skips St Moritz but stops at Pontresina, just a short train ride away.
Using a local train from Chur to St Moritz can save you money on seat reservations.
If you want a scenic ride, consider the Glacier Express for stunning views along the same route.
Be sure to check train schedules to make the most of your day.

Does the Bernina Express from Chur stop and St Moritz? Due to time constraints I am unable to take the full Bernina Express route but would like to experience part of this iconic route.
Chur to St Moritz and back to Chur. Is this possible with the Bernina express or do I have to take the Allegra railcar? Thanks.
You don’t have to travel the full Bernina Express route if you have a tight schedule. So yes, it is possible to travel just the section from Chur to St Moritz and back. You can find more details about the Bernina Express route here: https://www.myswissalps.com/activity/bernina-express/#directions
The Bernina Express from Chur bypasses St Moritz, but does stop in Pontresina, which is a 10-minute train trip from St Moritz. If you are going straight back to Chur, you can do so from Pontresina – there is no need to go into St Moritz.
There is a diagram of the Bernina Express route from Chur here:
If you would like further ideas about how to make the most of this day, please tell us your travel date, whether you are intending to spend any time in St Moritz or nearby, and what time you need to be back in Chur.
I agree with Alpenrose, as far as when you are traveling and if you want to spend any time in St Moritz. If you’re not nececeraly spending time in St Moritz, you can just take any local train there from Chur. It travels along the same tracks as the Bernina, but you can save a bit of money by not having to pay for seat reservation on the Bernina Express itself. From Chur to St Moritz is a two hour ride. Again, the scenery is the same. If you just want to ride on the Bernina Express just to do so, then again, you’re not missing anything on the regional train. Your choice. Have a great trip, whichever you decide, as you can’t go wrong either way. If you happen to want to see the Landwasser Viaduct, be sure to sit on the right side of the train on the way to St Moritz/Pontrasina. It will come up fast just before the Filisur train station.
Just to add to the above. You could also travel and enjoy the Chur – St Moritz – Chur route, on the Glacier Express panoramic train if you wanted to. All details on the Glacier Express train and route itself in the link below:
