Is the cogwheel train to Pilatus worth it or is there a better one?
A couple is visiting Switzerland in September and plans to travel through Zurich, Chur, Lucerne, Wengen, and Gimmelwald, finishing in Munich. They're curious if taking the cogwheel up to Pilatus is worth it or if there are better options on their way to Wengen. They're looking for advice on the best cogwheel ride to experience.
- The cogwheel train to Mount Pilatus offers breathtaking views and is the steepest in the world, making it a unique experience if the weather is good.
- Consider taking the cogwheel from Brienz to Brienzer-Rothorn as an alternative, which is also stunning and on your way to Weggis from Lucerne.
- September typically has fewer tourists, so waiting times should be shorter compared to peak season.

My wife and I are headed to Switzerland in September. Zurich, Chur, (2 days in Como), Lucerne, Wengen, Gimmelwald two nights, (ending in Munich). We were going to take the train up to Pilatus the morning we leave Lucerne, weather reliant. Is there a better cogwheel to ride? I know we will be on a cogwheel to get to Wengen. Just wondering if Pilatus is worth it or if we should see something else on the way to Wengen. Thank you for your reply.
