A traveler named Juliegamble4 is planning a trip to Geneva and Lauterbrunnen in June for 4 nights, primarily using trains and doing some hiking. They seek advice on the best train route from Geneva Airport to Lauterbrunnen and explore ticket options for their travels, including the Swiss Travel Pass and possible tours.

Hi Juliegamble4,
Welcome to MySwissAlps.
I would recommend taking the train from Geneva Airport to Lauterbrunnen. The journey will take about 3.5 hours with changes in Bern and Interlaken Ost. It is easy to plan your journey using the SBB timetable: http://www.myswissalps.com/timetable
Based on your personal itinerary you should read “How to choose the best travel pass” (http://www.myswissalps.com/train/ticketspasses/practical/chooserailpass), download the handy spreadsheet calculator and do the math. The spreadsheet also includes links to the “Where it’s valid” page for all available passes. Be sure to check those pages for each pass you are considering. Study the map AND read all the text on those pages to fully understand what is covered by the respective pass.
You can make reservations for the Golden Pass Line (http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass) including seat selection at bit.ly/2kaq6Rf. Click the “e” for English language top right of the page. (where it says “Sprachwahl: d i f e”). Then change the class of travel, date of travel and start/end points to suit. Reservations are not compulsory but are recommended on the Zweisimmen to Montreux leg (which is where the Panoramic and Belle Époque trains operate) during peak tourist season.

Hi Juliegamble4!
As mentioned by Rockoyster, seat reservations for the Golden Pass aren’t required. If you”ll be traveling in shoulder season, just can just hop on and off. If you do want to arrange for reservations, you can do so here: http://www.myswissalps.com/goldenpass/tickets.
The combination of a 4 day Swiss Travel Pass and a Saver Day Pass sounds feasible, but you’ll have to make calculations to make sure. Once you’ve decided, you can get your passes through

Hi Julie,
The type of shoes depend on the type of routes. The easier (mostly at lower altitude) trails can be done on comfortable shoes, but the rocky paths require more sturdy hiking shoes/boots. You’ll find a lot of trail suggestions and practical hiking tips here: http://www.myswissalps.com/hiking.
I’m not sure what kind of tour you’re referring to? Almost all activities in Switzerland can both be booked on the spot or shortly before, as well as online. Our activity pages offer links to book and check prices: http://www.myswissalps.com/activities.
