    Hi Everyone

I would just like to say thank you to all at this forum, for the help and advice given over the time I have been a member of this wonderful forum.

As my wife is one of those persons that is in the vulnerable category, and has to self isolate for 12 weeks, our holiday to Switzerland starting 21st May will now have to be postponed probably till late September beginning October this year.

Stay safe and well, and please take notice of all advice given by the professionals.

pkerr, so sorry my photo — looking across the valley to your Eiger Trail — didn’t come through. It’s a lovely picture, but apparently its size is too big for this wonderful forum. I need to figure out how to reduce the size of the file, and then I will try again. My apologies. Like so many of us who so appreciate MySwissAlps, I love seeing everyone’s pictures of such gorgeous alpine territory. Crazy as the larger world is at the moment, Mother Nature continues to stun and amaze and give great hope.

    Dear team,

Hope the position in Switzerland is improving and at least within control. With the help of this forum I had finalized my tour to France, Switzerland and austria from June 6 to June 21, 2020 which seems impossible now. I wrote to Swiss embassy at new delhi and they told visa application processing is suspended till June 15. Unfortunately all my flight and hotel bookings were non refundable. I am trying my best with them to go for date change request without charges. Not sure what will be the outcome. However would like to fix October 7 to October 17 tentaively for my trip. Please advise how will be the weather and whether the main attractions like titlis, jungfrauch, matterhorn is open at that time.

    Regards

    Arijit

I’d like to add my thanks to My Swiss Alps for providing an. Incredible service to travelers with dreams of being in Switzerland. Over many months I have saved hundreds of replies that helped plan our 6 week trip for later this year. It’s too early to know if that will happen but going thru them over the past few weeks has us more determined to make sure we take this trip when the time is right. Thanks again and we hope everyone is safe and well.

Pretty close. Just a small mistake in the first. It is called the Niesen.

Just for fun, attached is a topo image of the Niesen, where you can probably see why it is referred to as the Pyramid. The small dotted line to the left is the path we walked down to the mid station, and it was plenty steep in many places, although not as challenging as the other path zig-zagging down in the other direction. Hi Caroline.

These days, almost all good digital photos are well over the 1 MG limit mentioned by Steph. You probably have a program called “Paint” already loaded on your computer. With Paint it is super easy to reduce an image, and there is no need to download another app. Just open Paint, and click at top left to get a drop-down menu. Second item on that list should be “Open” (see red arrow in first attachment). Click on that to locate and open your photo. It will likely be so huge that you will only see part of it. No worries. Now click on “Resize” (red arrow in second attachment). Then you can put whatever % you want. I suggest you try something like 20%, and voilà, you will now probably see your whole image. If it is still too large or too small, just do a “control Z” and it will revert to its original size. You can play around with the % until you get to the desired photo size. Then go to that first drop down menu, and click on “Save As” (green arrow in third attachment), giving it a new name so you won’t loose your original. I suggest you save it as a JPEG. Now you’ll be able to upload it to MySwissAlps.

You may have all kinds of extra time these days, and if so you can play around with Paint to see all you can do with it.

With the app you can skip ALL those steps. It gets “baked” right into Windows. One install only and that’s it. Find your photo, right click, check the size you want and you are done. It takes probably 10 seconds to resize a photo. 🙂

    Hej !

Well, I must say that doing it with Paint takes about the same time. I just spelled out the steps, possibly making it sound longer than it really is. That must be the school teacher in me. The only steps I mentioned were open, resize, and save, and these are steps that just have to be followed with any program. No way to skip any of them. That said, what do you mean by the term “baked” ? Personally, I try to avoid as many extra downloads as I can, as I’m never sure they won’t wreak havoc with other things in my computer. About the only exception to this is my IrfanView which has served me faithfully for years with absolutely no problems. Cheers !

I’ve used it for years without a problem. I’m in IT and certainly would shy away from anything that could cause an issue.

By baked in I mean that once it’s loaded it stays loaded if after a restart. (There is no loss of resources) All you need to do is right click picture and along with the usual options that you get with a right click (copy, move, delete, etc) one will be to resize. Simple as that. It is extremely handy to use.

    Hi Everyone

Here are three photos from our holiday to Switzerland in April 2016. I hope they make somone smile when they view them.

Two were taking in and around Zermatt, and the other one near Alp Grum I think!

I will attach the third photo to another post.

For some reason I can only load two photos today, I keep getting an error message stating that attachments cannot be in excess 2.5 MB, yet the photo I am trying to upload is only 31kb in a jpeg form.

Never mind I will try and upload the other one tomorrow.

I’ll take a look at it, but not today. Too many other things on my mind. In the meantime, I’ll just rely on Paint (or IrfanView). I guess we could say that IrfanView is baked into my computer, correct ?

Well not really if you have to load it each time to use it. But if it’s a “one and done” then you definitely could say that. 🙂

    Hello Arijit,

Yes, it’s all a bit hard at the moment, not knowing what to expect in the next few weeks (months?)

I think it’s reasonable to reschedule, please find input on the weather to expect in October in below links:

    Hej !

Neat photo looking towards Lac Thoune, with Interlaken below. And that is part of the Niesen on the left edge of your image.

    Hi Victoria,

<< I lose points because autocorrect thought I was referring to Liam (Niessen)? No fair. >> Actually, Liam didn’t even come to my mind. It was the “l” in your answer that threw me off. That made me think of the Nielsen ratings in the USA (I think they are for TV shows). Anyway, I didn’t say you were going to lose any points, as I like to give the benefit of the doubt. My next photo will be tougher (see next post in this thread).

As for your << Tell me again why they call it the pyramid.>>, it looks like you have answered that yourself, based on the two images that you attached. By the way, they are both great photos.
