Boat rides from Montreux on Lake Geneva in Dec

Short summary – read this first

Katherinehor is visiting Montreux from December 13-15 and wants to take a boat ride on Lake Geneva. She can't find any information on available boat trips during the winter weekdays and is looking for advice. It appears that boat options are very limited this time of year.

Key takeaways:
  • Boat trips on Lake Geneva are limited in winter, mainly departing from Geneva and Lausanne.
  • You can take a ferry from Lausanne to Evian during weekdays, which is a good option.
  • With a Eurail Global Pass, you can get a 50% discount on the boat trip from Lausanne to Evian.
  • Remember that service from Montreux is only available on Sundays in December while other routes operate year-round.

Hi all. I will be in Montreux from 13-15 Dec (weekdays). Really hoping to take a boat ride on Lake Geneva from Montreux but I can’t seem to locate any at all. Most sites point to the cgn website but nothing there as well. Hoping for some ideas or tips here. Thank you very much!

Thanks Anna! It seems the only boat ride I can take during the weekdays is the ferry from Lausanne to and from Evian. Could I check if this ferry is covered by Eurail? Thank you so much!

Remember that Lac Leman is a very big lake, so in winter it can be more like the open sea. That is why CGN doesn’t operate much in winter. Boats only run from Montreux on Sundays in December.

There is a commuter-orientated boat service Lausanne – Evian all year round (as you have discovered). But if you are lucky and get a nice day, there is a longer trip to Thonon les Bains. This service is a recent innovation.
